Birthday Dinner
The Annual Birthday Dinner for New Bremen Post 241, Legion, Auxiliary & SAL members will be held on March 17, 2012.  Cocktails will be at 6 with dinner at 7.  Speaker for the evening will be Vi Gryzybowski, Department Auxiliary President.  Sign up sheet will be in the canteen or you can call Ginny Dicke at 419-733-6092 or the Legion at 419-629-2357.
 
Past Commanders Dinner
The Past Commanders Dinner will be March 25th.  Keep an eye out for your invitation and we hope to see all of our Past Commanders and Past Presidents in attendance.

Remembering Our Vets At Elmwood Assisted Living Center
Post 241 will now donate free chicken and free fish dinners when we have a chicken or fish fry to veterans who are residents of Elmwood Assisted Living Center in New Bremen.
 
Sick Call & Relief
Take a moment to remember our veterans who are on Sick Call remember if it were not for our veterans you might be reading this in German. Those who have been reported and continue on Sick Call are Mervin Quellhorst, Bill Jackson, Dale Fledderjohn, Aloys Sommer, Victor Maurer, Robert Wissman, and Vernon Maurer.
We'd also like to send our condolences to the friends and family 66 year member Verlin Hirschfeld and 32 year member Ralph Pickering, Sr.  
 
If you have additions or updates to Sick Call please call Adjutant Mike Suchland at 419-629-3111 or better yet come to the meeting at 8:00pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month and see what else we do.
 
Local Donations 
New Bremen Post 241 donated $3300. to Boy Scout Troop 95. To offset the cost of chartering a bus for their planned trip to visit Gettysburg National Park. Post 241 has been the chartering organization of troop 95 for 44 years and we try to support all the youth in our community.

New Bremen Post 241 donated $7500. to the local Rotary Club Sunshine Project Handicap Accessible Park being planned and to be installed at Bremenfest Park. Plans project a completion date of early 2012 dependent of grants and local funding. While we as a Post have made a sizable contribution we are urging all members to contribute to this project you may make contributions directly to the Rotary or if you wish you may make a contribution to Post 241 and designate it as Sunshine Park Project and we will channel it forward.

 
Life Insurance Policy Forms 
Attn. Life and Paid Up for Life members:  Adjutant Mike Suchland received the new forms for the $1000. accidental life insurance after your membership cards were mailed to you.  This form needs to be refiled every five years.  Anyone wanting this form may pick one up at the post canteen. If you are unable to get to the post canteen, you may call Mike Suchland at 419-629-3111.
 
Memorial Day Services 
We would like to thank everyone who attended the Memorial Day Services this year to honor all who have given their lives for our freedoms.  Very special thank you's go out to our guest speaker Past Department Commander Ed Anderson, the New Bremen High School Band, Deacon Greg Bornhorst, the Post #241 Color Guard, and the officers from the Legion, the Legion Auxilliary, and the Sons of the Legion.

CPR Certification 
If you are interested in becoming certified in CPR, please get a hold of SAL Commander Adam Suchland by e-mail at sal@nblegion.com.   The training is hosted by the NBEMS and will be free of charge.  It should take no longer than 4 hours.
 
In Memory
 The New Bremen American Legion would like to extend it's deepest sympathies and utmost appreciation to SFC Brian Naseman, who was killed in Iraq.
 
 
 
Sgt. 1st Class Brian K. Naseman, 36

Sgt. 1st Class Brian K. Naseman, 36, died while serving our Country with the U.S. Army – 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team – 108th Forward Support Company, attached to the 2nd Battalion in Iraq on Friday, May 22, 2009. He was born July 13, 1972 in St. Marys, a son of Richard Jerome and Diane Lauratine (Schmitmeyer) Naseman of New Bremen. 
On March 20, 1999, Brian was united in marriage with the love of his life, Peggy E. Chmielewski who survives along with their  sons, Cole and Carter. 
He had three sisters, Lori Buroker of New Bremen; Sandra (Scott) Wendeln of Fort Loramie, Christina (Jason) Eilerman of Osgood. 
He is also, survived by his nieces and nephews: Jennifer, Lisa and Andrea McGregor and David Buroker; Danielle and Hannah Wendeln and Alayna Eilerman; best friends, Cory Paul, Matt Knost, Dave Kettler, Dan Suchland, Chad Powers, Pam (Luedeke) Albright and Brian Tostrick; uncles and aunts, Jerry (Tex) and Nick (Pickles) Schmitmeyer, Judy  (Wayne) Krebs, Karl (Sally) Naseman, Maurice (Doris) Naseman, Pauline Otting and Rosemary and Jim Gianguzzo.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lawrence (Marianna) Schmitmeyer and paternal grandparents, Carl (Hazel) Naseman.
A 1990 graduate of New Bremen High School, he went on to attend Wright State University and The Ohio State University pursuing a degree in education. Soon after, Brian began his 20-year career with the Army National Guard. Brian originally served with the Ohio Army National Guard, before transferring to the Wisconsin Army National Guard from where he had been deployed to Kuwait and Iraq.  
While serving, Brian also worked as a laborer for Masonry Specialists.
He worked hard on dairy farms during high school, and after high school at Crown Equipment and Thieman Stamping.
Brian was a loving son, brother, husband, father and uncle.  He was liked by everyone and had many friends. He is our hero.  He loved his family, friends and country.   He loved to play with his sons and his nieces and nephews. He had a great sense of humor.
Brian was a Boy Scout and earned several Boy Scout awards.
In high school, Brian was a member of the Spanish club, FFA in which he earned many awards including the State Farmer Award, and was treasurer his senior year.  He was also a Buckeye Boys State Delegate. In high school sports, he loved playing baseball, basketball, track and running cross country his senior year. He played on the American Legion League baseball team for a few years after high school.
He loved to fish with his sons and remodeled his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St.,  Racine, WI. 53406 with Rev. William J. Dietzler officiating. Interment, with Full Military Honors, will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road,  Racine, WI   53403 (262-552-9000). In lieu of flowers, memorials to the “Brian Naseman Children’s Fund” C/O Johnson Bank at 6700 Washington Ave.,  Racine, WI.  53406
 A heartfelt note of thanks to our family members, friends and the entire community for the outpouring of compassion and support during this tragic time.
